Time is running. Winter, which was also a bit chilly in tropical Guangzhou, is long over. Flowers are blooming, it's getting hot again. Bridge construction of the Wuhan - Guangzhou Railway Line is at its final big effort. In about 6 to 8 weeks everything will be finished. Hannes Bar & Restaurant, which is now renamed in 'Ning's and Hannes' village bar' (sounds less vain) is known by some expats in Guangzhou, yet Ning and me realised that we will need to do much more to poromote our place. On Monday we will get our business cards, Tuesday we will host the German - Chinese Forum Guangdong. Since we still don't have good English speaking waiters we will probably need to service by ourselves... puh!
A lot of work. We definitely need to do more of the small trips such as last Sunday and Monday (which was public holiday in China). That days, we took a 2 hours bus to the provincial capital Zengzhou, from there another hour to Yonghan. We slept there and found out that in places like that it gets really quiet early - we had a hard time to find a place for dinner at 20:15 pm. Normal dinner time here: 17:30 pm. Next day, after depositing some of our luggage, we took a mototaxi to the scenic hills of Nankunshan. It took about 45 minutes - a really beautiful trip through tropical forestst with bamboo and many other special plants. The mototaxi dricer dropped us off at the foot of 'Tiantangding' from where we started the 3 hours climb of the 1211 m hill. It was little people, a nice mountain path besides a creek, through a misty forest. The screaming sounds of wildlife rounded up the adventure. When we were back after 5 hours we decided to walk further back to a small village - which we missed. Since Ning's mobile ran out of power we also could not contact the mototaxi to pick us up. We finally hitchhiked back - and ended not in Yonghan but in Baishuidai village at the other side of the hills. It was already around 6 pm so we decided to return to Guangzhou - and poor Ning had to go back the next day and pick up our things at Yonghan. Chaotic in the end - but still a very nice trip. Since I had little free time recently and my work in Guangzhou projekt will end at end of June, I am longing for more holidays!! Brasil is calling... a beautiful diverse country, relaxed people, the country of the soccer world cup 2014 - a nice contrast to life in China.
